A native of Ukraine, Mr. Orohovsky received his dance education at the Kiev State Choreographic School and a Bachelor and a Master of Arts degree from the Kiev State University of Culture. After graduation, Mr. Orohovsky began his professional career at the Kiev National Opera and Ballet Theatre, where he danced numerous solo and principal roles. With Kiev Opera and Ballet Theatre, he toured extensively throughout Europe, Japan, Mexico, and Canada. In 1994, Mr. Orohovsky won the bronze medal at the Serge Lifar First International Ballet Competition in Kiev, Ukraine. Following this prestigious award, he joined the El Paso Ballet as a Principal Dancer. Mr. Orohovsky worked with the Houston Ballet Company and then continued his career as an international ballet instructor. His repertoire includes such leading roles as; Tybalt and Romeo in Romeo and Juliet, the Prince in Cinderella, Franz in Coppelia, Prince Ivan in The Firebird, Bronze Idol in La Bayadére and the Prince in The Nutcracker to name a few. Mr. Orohovsky has appeared throughout the United States as a guest artist with ballet companies such as Corpus Christi Ballet, California Ballet, Clear Lake Metropolitan Ballet, Dallas Metropolitan Ballet, Toledo Ballet, Lone Star Ballet and Biloxi City Ballet. In the United States, Mr. Orohovsky has taught master classes, choreographed, provided workshops for graduate students, and directed performances for different dance establishments, including the University of Texas at El Paso, the University of Utah, New Mexico State University, Brigham Young University, Bowling Green University, and West Texas A & M University. In 1997, Mr. Orohovsky was offered a position as Artistic Director at Brigham Young University, Utah, where he staged many of his own works and masterpieces such as Coppelia and Paquita. In 2004 he accepted the position of Director of the Vaganova Program at Houston International Ballet Academy and Artistic Director of Houston International Ballet. Together with his wife Katya, he founded South Mississippi Ballet Theatre in 2010. Since founding South Mississippi Ballet Theatre, Mr. Orohovsky has staged his own Nutcracker, Dracula, Don Quixote, Giselle, Cinderella, Swan Lake, Paquita, Firebird, and Sleeping Beauty for the company. His students have been accepted, on full artistic scholarship, to The Bolshoi Academy, Harid Conservatory, Kirov Academy of Ballet, School of American Ballet and Houston Ballet as well as many other nationally recognized schools.
